Unwanted in the summer transfer window, Rayan Cherki ultimately remained at OL. Now important in sport, a departure is not excluded this winter due to the colossal debt of Textor which needs liquidity.
Rayan Cherki was one of the soap operas of the summer transfer window, and he will surely be a shaker in the January transfer market. Clearly shelved by his management who wanted to sell him, the attacking midfielder did not lack requests but despite interest from PSG, Dortmund and Leipzig, he ultimately remained at OL. However, the economic situation is worrying for the Rhone club. Lyon is part of the Eagle Football group which has a debt of 500 million euros and saw the DNCG pronounce, among other things, a demotion to Ligue 2 as a precautionary measure at the end of the season in recent days. John Textor is therefore forced to sell some of his players in the transfer window and Cherki, who recently extended until 2026, is one of OL's biggest market values.
OL are asking for 30 million to let go of Cherki this winter
Candidates will be jostling at the gate for the 21-year-old player, since PSG, who had offered 15 million euros, is still interested in Cherki according to information from Foot Mercato. However, the capital club will have to pay double that, or 30 million euros, to lure him into their nets. This is the minimum amount for which the Lyon management will begin negotiations. Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen, two other European big names, are also monitoring his profile. OL are not in a strong position and need to replenish their coffers to keep their promises made to the DNCG. The financial policeman of French football will not give the Rhone club a gift, but OL does not intend to sell off its jewel however. The next few weeks promise to be hectic for Rayan Cherki.
