It’s a extraterrestrial. Almost sickening for ordinary mortals…
While there are surely runners still complaining of soreness after completing the 10 km from Deauville (Calvados) in the afternoon of this Saturday November 16, 2024Guillaume Ruel (27 years old) “recovered” from this effort by continuing the next morning with the semi-marathon at 8:15 a.m. then… marathon at 9:45!
In summary, he ran 73 terminals in less than 24 hours. At a slow trot? Quite the contrary! The native of Valognes (Manche) finished 5e du 10 km en 30’28 » (3’03 » au kilo), 6e half marathon in 1h 10’29” (3’19” per kilo), “on a walk” according to his comment on Strava, and 6e tied with his brother Pierre-Antoine for the marathon in 2h 31’44” (3’33” per kilo).
The world championship in the viewfinder
Of the stratospheric performance which come at the end of an insane cycle, during which the athlete licensed in Pays Saint-Lois has participated in five marathons since the end of September while aligning training weeks at 250 kmwith a peak at 325 km!
5 marathons
Guillaume Ruel completed 5 marathons in 7 weeks: in Rouen (1st in 2h22), Jersey (1st in 2h23), Seine-Eure (3rd in 2h22), Rennes (2nd in 2h18) and Deauville (6th in 2h31).
After this “ crazy program » concocted by Loïc Letellier, the veteran of AS Tourlaville who became his “executioner” as coach, it is therefore sharp and with full confidence that he will fly to India, to Bengaluru, at the beginning of December to participate in the 100 km world championshiphis big goal of the year, where he will aim for “at least the podium” after his 5e place in 2022 and its abandonment last year.
Above all, he will seek to beat his record (6:13:41), or even become the first athlete in history to go under 6 hours over the distance. Nothing is impossible with such a phenomenon…
