As Wimbledon begins this Monday, July 1, the British Grand Slam has increased its prize money for this 2024 edition. In total, 59 million euros will be distributed, including a very nice sum for the winners.
Like Roland-Garros, Wimbledon has revised its prize money upwards. In total, the British Grand Slam will distribute around 59 million euros to the players in its tournament. This amount is up 11.9% compared to the 2023 edition. For their part, the French Open had increased their allocation by 7.82%. The amounts received by players are therefore higher and higher each year, to the point of reaching several million for the winners. But concretely, how are these 59 million euros distributed?
More than 3 million euros
Porte d’Auteuil, Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek, the winners of Roland-Garros 2024, received 2.4 million euros each. On the other hand, in London, the tournament thinks bigger. With its very precise rules, in particular with the obligatory white outfit for the players, Wimbledon is a class above.
And the big winners of the tournament will receive a very nice sum after being crowned. An increase of 14.9% compared to 2023, the winners of the British Grand Slam will win around 3.2 million euros. That’s almost a million more than the French Open.
From July 1, Carlos Alcaraz and Marketa Vondrousova, crowned in 2023, will try to defend their title and pocket the jackpot again. The Spaniard will even go for the double after winning Roland-Garros. Unhappy finalists will be able to settle for a nice check for around 1.65 million euros.
How much for doubles?
At the Grand Slams, there are also doubles. And the players crowned in doubles still receive a nice sum. The pairs who will be crowned on the London lawn will receive around 768,000 euros and will share the sum.
On the other hand, mixed doubles will receive a smaller amount. At Roland-Garros, the Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin and the German Laura Siegemund won the mixed doubles tournament and shared 122,000 euros after their coronation. While at Wimbledon, this sum will reach around 154,000 euros.
