Coach Ruben Amorim, recently appointed as head of Manchester United, has already reportedly submitted transfer targets to the club’s management. Among these, one name stands out: Viktor Gyökeres, star striker of Sporting CP.
Manchester United in search of renewal
Since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United have struggled to regain their past glory. Several coaches, including Erik ten Hag recently, have succeeded one another without succeeding in lastingly rectifying the situation. After a disappointing season marked by an 8th place in the Premier League, but saved by a cup victory, management finally decided to hand over the reins to Amorim.
Amorim takes charge
Former coach of Sporting CP, where he achieved impressive results, Ruben Amorim left Lisbon just before the international break to join Old Trafford. His arrival is seen as an attempt to revive the Mancunian machine thanks to a modern tactical approach and rigorous management.
Viktor Gyökeres, priority target for the summer
Amorim has reportedly put Viktor Gyökeres at the top of his wishlist to strengthen Manchester United’s attack. Under his orders at Sporting, the Swede has become one of the most prolific strikers in Europe, with already 23 goals in 18 games this season.
A transaction planned for next summer
Sporting CP, aware of the value of their striker, would ask for an astronomical sum to release him: 100 million euros. Despite this high price, Manchester United would be ready to activate the player’s buyout clause. However, Amorim has said he will not look to poach players from his former club as early as January, and Gyökeres wants to finish the season in Portugal. Such an operation could therefore only take place in the summer of 2025.
