The glass ceiling has been broken. After three defeats in a row in the semi-finals of the Top 14, Union Bordeaux Bègles qualified for the first time in its recent history – created in 2006 after a merger between the Stade Bordeaux Université club and the Béglais Athletic Club, promoted in the elite in 2011- in the championship final. Confirmation of a rise in power under the orders of Yannick Bru, who arrived at the club in 2023 to succeed Christophe Urios. This season, the Bordelais shone with their offensive rugby, carried by an attack line described as “Galactics” including Damian Penaud, Louis Bielle-Biarrey and Matthieu Jalibert (injured). “With this UBB generation in our three-quarter line, we want our game to be structured but also unpredictable. This fits with the talent of our players, but it corresponds to the DNA of UBB which has always been a friendly, young, positive club, which vibrates with the Chaban-Delmas stadium.
