Corey Perry is no longer the player he used to be.
We’re still talking about a guy who has already scored 50 goals and who averaged 65 to 70 points per season when he was in his prime.
The veteran has now had a depth role for a few years and he does his job well.
We knew him in Montreal as a true leader and he still has those qualities.
It’s not for nothing, after all, that he was able to sign a new one-year contract ($1.15 million) with the Oilers this summer.
But Perry is 39 and usually players at that age start to think about retirement. It’s quite the opposite for the former CH… He who wants to play until the age of 45.
At least that’s what we learn in an article by Dave Lévesque. Perry will celebrate his 40th birthday next May:
This season, Perry has three goals and one assist.
Again, he’s not as productive anymore… But he’s still played all of the Oilers’ games so far (18) and he’s still capable of being useful to a National League club.
That said, it remains to be seen if he has enough in the tank to play for another five years.
Five years is a long time… And when an athlete passes the age of forty, often the body no longer keeps up.
Which is normal, we agree.
But what can help is that Perry doesn’t need to score 15 goals per season to help a team. His voice in the locker room is important because he won… And because he is always ready to go to war for his teammates.
Brief. All this to say that Perry wants to play for a long time… And that it wouldn’t surprise me to see him be able to do it, in the end to finally win another Stanley Cup ring.

– Interesting…
– Please note for poolers:
– That would be something.
