The first Italian to become world number 1 since the creation of the ranking in 1973, Jannik Sinner concluded his season in the best possible way, in front of his audience in Turin, by winning the Masters on Sunday November 17. Winner of his first two Grand Slam tournaments at the Australian Open and the US Open, he dominated the year 2024 almost unchallenged.
Only the 3rd player to win the Australian Open, US Open and Masters in the same season
For him, the hard part is simple. Jannik Sinner is only the third player to win the three biggest hard court tournaments, after Roger Federer (in 2004, 2006 and 2007) and Novak Djokovic (in 2015 and 2023). In Majors, it was only at Roland Garros (in the semi-finals against Carlos Alcaraz) and at Wimbledon (in the quarter-finals against Daniil Medvedev) that the Italian experienced defeat. This season, only Carlos Alcaraz is doing as well in terms of the number of Grand Slam tournaments won (2).
More titles (8) than defeats (6)
“It seems like he forgot how to lose.”summed up Casper Ruud after his elimination in the semi-finals. The Norwegian is not wrong: Jannik Sinner has only lost six matches this season, for 70 victories. Nobody does it better. Exceptional results which allowed him to win eight titles (ATP and Majors combined), double that of his runner-up, Carlos Alcaraz (4). With 11,330 points acquired in the ATP rankings, he achieved the best performance since Novak Djokovic in 2021 (11,540), while only two other players have exceeded the 11,000 mark: Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal.
17 victories against the top 10, strong against the strong
To establish his domination, Jannik Sinner was uncompromising against his closest competitors in the rankings. In 2024, he won 17 times against players in the top 10. It was against Carlos Alcaraz that the Italian encountered the most difficulties, with three defeats (at Indian Wells, Roland-Garros and Beijing). He also became the first player not to have conceded a single break point in two consecutive matches against Novak Djokovic, a first in the Serb's career on the main circuit.
91.2% of his faceoffs won: impregnable on his serve
Like Novak Djokovic, very few players have managed to snatch a break from Jannik Sinner this season, since the Italian has postponed 91.2% of his faceoffs this season, the best in this area. His composure also allowed him to save 73.6% of the break points he conceded, he is also the best on this statistic. Impregnable, he won at least one set in all the matches he played during the season, the first to achieve this feat since 1990, after Roger Federer in 2005.
