The Swiss won their Billie Jean King Cup playoff handily against Serbia in Bienne. Viktorija Golubic (WTA 108) outclassed Lola Radivojevic (181) 6-0 6-0 and offered the decisive 3rd point. The Swiss ensure their retention in the world group since Golubic and Belinda Bencic had already won the 2 singles the day before.
In the first game, Golubic, who won her second WTA title 2 weeks ago in China, found herself trailing 0-40 on her serve. In the end it was just a small scare with no consequences. The 32-year-old from Zurich still managed to win her service game and then dominated the young Serbian in all areas.
Radivojevic, who had been beaten the day before by Bencic 6-2 6-2, was completely overwhelmed by Golubic’s solid and varied tennis. The Zurich player sealed the deal in just 50 minutes of play.
Captain Heinz Günthardt’s players will therefore be able to fight at the highest level again next spring to try to reach the final tournament and perhaps relive the emotions of their victory in 2022.
