Returning to Deux-Sèvres with Bordeaux to challenge Bressuire, this Sunday, November 17, 2024, former Chamois Yanis Merdji (2021-2023) explains his choice to sign in National 2, while he was able to bounce back in Ligue 2 with the US Concarneau after its departure from Niort. A decision that the 31-year-old striker (four goals in nine matches) don’t regret
as he flourished alongside Andy Caroll in the Girondins jersey.
Why did you choose to join Bordeaux, in National 2?
Yanis Merdji : “John Williams (the sports director, Editor’s note) contacted me and presented the project to me. Obviously, when you get called up for the Girondins, it’s fabulous, despite everything that happened this summer. The situation was special, so it wasn’t an easy choice, but today, I don’t regret it. This confirms my choice that this project can be very fulfilling as an athlete. Also, on a historical level, a new page needs to be written. When you’re a player and you have a love of football, participating in the Girondins’ comeback counts for me. The level is not Ligue 2, that’s for sure, but you have to know how to make concessions, and it is for this history and this ultra-interesting sporting project that I chose to join Bordeaux. “…
