The Belgian championship is increasingly popular abroad. It must be said that many current football stars have made it in our country. We can notably cite Victor Osimhen, Jonathan David, Bart Verbruggen and Antonio Nusa.

Matt O’Riley

Obviously, Belgian clubs sometimes miss out on some great deals. The Athletic we learn, for example, that Kortrijk had Matt O’Riley undergo tests in 2020. The Scottish midfielder was then without a club after leaving Fulham. But after consultation, the Kerels finally decided not to offer him a contract.

After this refusal, O’Riley landed a contract at MK Dons and exploded there. After a season in England, he joined Celtic and became one of the stars of the Scottish league.

Transferred to Brighton for 30M euros

After two big years in Scotland (127 matches, 27 goals), he was transferred for no less than 30 million euros to Brighton during the last summer transfer window.

Kortrijk must today regret not having signed the central midfielder in 2020. The Kerels can, however, console themselves by saying that they sold Terem Moffi for eight million euros to that same year.
