“To one day become the best slalom rider in the world”, Steven Amiez is looking forward to a new season with ambition. After passing a milestone last season, marked by three top 10s in the World Cup, the skier from Courchevel is looking forward to the first meeting of the season this Sunday at the Levi Slalom.
How are you feeling as the first start of the season approaches?
“I feel pretty good. The preparation went well. It was quite usual, first in Les Deux Alpes at the beginning of summer and Ushuaia at the beginning of September. It was important to lay the foundations and find the snow conditions in order to really start the preparation. It was an opportunity to work on some adjustments such as mastering the commitment, avoiding making mistakes, skiing even more solidly. We only spent a few days in Levi. The slope was not yet ready so we went to ski in another resort nearby. It was great for training and working in peace, there were great conditions. »

“I am quite calm”
After a promising last season, how do you plan for yourself?
“I plan, like last winter, race after race, to achieve the best possible result at each start. Except that this winter, I know that I will start in the Top 15, there are other snow conditions for skiing, and additional opportunities too. It won’t be easier, but the conditions will allow you to play more up front. So I hope I can benefit from it. This gives me more confidence than pressure, my goals are higher than making a top 15 in the world.
So, what are the goals this season?
“The general objective of the winter is to have the same commitment, the same will as last winter, but by trying to play even more ahead and why not aim for podiums and victories, I know that I am capable and that I ski for. Now, you have to succeed in doing it and be present on the big day. So, obviously, compared to last year, I have more ambitions, to one day become the best slalom skier in the world, even if for Right now, I’m already happy to be here.
For Levi’s slalom, I feel good, I’m quite calm. There are still one or two things to sort out, but I hope the race will put me in the right direction. It’s always better in racing conditions, there is the motivation to surpass myself even more than in training. »
