“A mainsail problem that his team judge irreparable aloneespecially with so much difficulty putting one’s foot on deck,” comments the official Vendée Globe account.
The skipper of V&B-Monbana-Mayenne therefore made the decision this Friday noon to abandon the solo world tour.
“My ankle is seriously damaged. […] It only grew over time and with the maneuvers,” explains the skipper in a press release. “With my pain or not, it is impossible to change portions of the mainsail rail three meters high,” explains Maxime Sorel.
“This time, my ankle and my mainsail don't allow me to write this sporting and adventurous story that I love deep within me,” regrets the skipper who finished tenth in the 2020 edition.
