The first day of the Barcelona Solidarity GP went well for Francesco Bagnaia. The driver showed steady progress, finishing as fastest with a 1m38.918s lap during testing.
The Ducati rider expressed his satisfaction with his performance on Friday: ‘It was good, honestly. I feel good, because that’s what I want every race weekend: start well, feel good and work well. We never took a step back, every session we took a step forward. So I’m happy with that’.
Bagnaia’s day was also marked by an unusual crash after a practice start during the first free practice session. The 2022 and 2023 champion explained what happened:
– This morning it was… I missed the start, because my rear tire slipped, and then we are at the limit with the engine, so I didn’t want to push on that because you never know . I think my mistake was slowing down so much. But honestly, when you’re that fast, you go inside, and there was a lot of space inside. I started hearing him, and I thought he would go inside. But as soon as I saw him coming with enormous speed on the outside, on the curb, with the bike moving, I got scared and I lost the front like that.
