Today, Sunday June 23, 2024, the Olympic torch relay passes through Haute-Savoie. On this occasion, many activities are organized in the participating municipalities, and that is good since it is also Olympic Day, celebrated each year on June 23. But then, where to see the flame and what to do?

The journey of the Olympic flame in Haute-Savoie

The Olympic flame will highlight the emblematic sites of Haute-Savoie, between its ski areas, its spas and its lakes:

  • She will begin her journey at Évian-les-Bains has 8h45crossing Dollfus Park.
  • Then, at 10h20, she will go through Héry-sur-Alby and will arrive at Annemasse has 12h10.
  • HAS 14h40, the flame will reach the Glières plateaua symbolic place of the Resistance during the Second World War.

The final festivities will take place in Chamonix, the city which hosted the first Winter Olympic Games in 1924. One hundred years later, the Olympic flame will once again light up the city center of this resort on this World Olympic Day.

The festivities in Évian-les-Bains

In Évian-les-Bains, the Olympic flame will travel 4 km between Buvette Cachat and Dollfus Park. This crossing will be punctuated by events in the colors of Olympism, linked to the conservatory, the Harmony, schools, sports clubs and firefighters:

The festivities in Héry-sur-Alby

The Olympic flame will leave at 10:20 a.m. from the Hérydan medical establishment in Héry-sur-Alby, and will arrive at 10:40 a.m. at the SIPA cultural and sports center in Alby-sur-Chéran, near René Long college. Six torchbearers will form the convoy.

Throughout the day, activities will be offered at the Hérydan Medical Home, on the village square of Héry, and at the Pays d’Alby cultural and sports center. You can view the full program here.

From 8 a.m., the association of Randonneurs du Chéran will offer signposted routes from Chainaz-les-Frasses (departure from the Chainaz Zik car park) and Alby-sur-Chéran (departure from the La Combe car park) to the sites of Héry and of the cultural and sports center. Buses will also be in place to transport visitors to the site.

The festivities in Annemasse

The Olympic flame will leave the Annemasse station area to reach Place de la Libération, passing in front of the Glières high school and Château Rouge. At the same time, the city organizes activities throughout the day, from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.:

12h45 Liberation Square Celebration of the arrival of the flame with concert of the Olympic anthems proposed by the OVVA
11 a.m./6:30 p.m Liberation Square Olympic entertainment village: spectacular acrobatic basketball shows, freestyle football, breakdancing and trampoline, initiations and sports sessions, discovery of Handi sport, bike course, initiation to first aid procedures, etc.

The festivities at the Plateau des Glières

The Olympic flame will pass through the Plateau des Glières between 2:40 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., with a route going from the National Monument to the Resistance to the Maquis Memory area, via the Glières road. From 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., “nature” activities will be organized by the Glières Mixed Union.

Please note, to access the Glières plateau, access will only be by free shuttles, and prior registration is mandatory due to the configuration of the site.

The festivities in Chamonix Mont-Blanc

In Chamonix, the flame’s journey will begin at Montenvers station, then pass through the Aiguille du Midi cable car square. It will continue to the Olympic stadium, inaugurated in 1924, before heading to Place du Mont-Blanc for the final celebrations. The celebration site will be free and open to all from 3:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. In the program :
