Blues: Zaire-Emery, the incomprehensible choice

Didier Deschamps had concocted a little surprise in his starting lineup last night, by aligning the young PSG player at number 10.

Thursday evening, Didier Deschamps chose to start Warren Zaire-Emery for the
League of Nations meeting between and Israel. The French coach used the Saint-Germain player as playmaker.

An option which did not bear fruit, since the 18-year-old midfielder produced a mediocre copy. Much too timid in his forward play, the native of ended up being replaced by Marcus Thuram in the 78th minute of play.

Zaire-Emery in 10, that’s no!

Many observers deplored the tactical choice of Didier Deschamps. Starting with Ludovic Obraniak.
“It wasn't a great success but it wasn't a gift. This boy must be facing the game, never with his back to the game,” remarked the sports consultant in the columns of The Team.

And the former LOSC player continued: “He will not be able to evolve as a second attacker given his body orientation. I had a hard time seeing any complementarity with Kolo Muani. But, at least, the three circles tried and showed generosity.” Asked about this surprising choice, Didier Deschamps fully accepted it in a post-match press conference.
