Owen Beck expelled again for dangerous move

The Canadian’s hope, Owen Beck, got into trouble again on Friday night against the London Knights in the final of the OHL championship.

The Peterborough Petes forward tripped his opponent late in the game. The referees awarded him a five-minute penalty, in addition to ejecting him from the fifth game of the final series.

Here is the sequence in question.

There is no doubt that the gesture was dangerous. If Owen Beck is suspended, it will be a heavy loss for the Petes.

The gesture was completely unnecessary. The Petes were already down 4-1 and the penalty came with 40 seconds left in the game. This will certainly be a factor that will influence OHL officials in their decision whether or not to suspend.

Beck made another dangerous move in Game 2 of the final series when he punched a Knights player in the head.

He was also ejected from the game, but was not suspended.

On the other hand, after two dangerous gestures in the same series, it would not be surprising if the OHL suspended him for one game or the rest of the series.

Beck has been effective for the Petes since the start of the Finals. Notably, he scored twice in a 6-5 win over Peterborough in game number three.

Note that Logan Mailloux scored a goal in an empty net at the very end of the game. The Petes lead the series 3-2 and can win the next game. It only remains to be seen whether it will be with or without Owen Beck.
