The king of pools does not hesitate to speak up when he is disappointed and angry. The proof, with his “rant” on the social network X, formerly Twitter, this Thursday, November 14, 2024. Indeed, Léon Marchand expressed his annoyance.
Notably because of a government decision which greatly disappoints him. As our colleagues from RTL remind us, a circular published on November 7 “cancels the two hours of weekly sports at college, after two years of experimentation”. A decision which does not please French athletes, and in particular the one who made French swimming shine during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Experimenting with two extra hours of sport in college
As a reminder, this was an experiment for two years which should come into force for good in the coming months. In the end, middle school students will not be entitled to their two additional hours of sport per weekin addition to the hours already set up by National Education.
In reality, as our colleagues point out, these hours will not be generalized throughout the territory. Faced with this situation, Léon Marchand therefore decided to speak out. Visibly stunned, he preferred to use emojis rather than words to express his anger.
Léon Marchand, disappointed by the government's decision
For example, he posted a clown emoji to accompany its publication in which we can find the article of The Team announcing the non-implementation of the generalization of two hours of additional sports in middle school.
Our colleagues from The Team recall, however, that the experiment has “demonstrated the relevance of the measure for middle school students far from regular practice, its complementarity with physical and sports education (PES) and the offer of school sports associations”.
However, the government does not wish to follow up because it would be perceived “still as complex to implement”. This is the reason for Léon Marchand's anger.
