Michael Schär is the new national road Cycling coach. The Lucerne resident will take over from Michael Albasini at the beginning of January.
Schär, who will be responsible for the national Elite and U23 executives, retains his position as sports director of the Lidl-Trek team. “I am very excited about this new challenge and I hope to be able to pass on my passion and a little of my experience to young runners”explained Schär in a press release from Swiss Cycling.
“I am happy that we were able to resolve the succession of Michael Albasini so quickly. Michael Schär was the candidate we wanted. He knows our system, the riders and brings real know-how from the professional world,” specifies Swiss Cycling sports director Patrick Müller. Schär is not venturing into unknown territory within the federation. At the end of September, during the World Championships in Zurich, he worked as an assistant to his predecessor. Now aged 38, Schär ended his career a year ago.
Albasini leaves Swiss Cycling after 4 seasons. In the future, he will work for the Swiss team Q36.5 as sports director.
