The passage of Vincent Kompany left a mark on many people in Anderlecht. Hendrik van Crombrugge remembers some experiences tested in training.
At Anderlecht, Hendrik Van Crombrugge was the starting goalkeeper under Vincent Kompany. It was upon the arrival of Brian Riemer that Bart Verbruggen exploded, Kompany having taken care to protect the young Dutchman.
Asked by Het Nieuwsblad what type of coach Kompany is, Van Crombrugge responds with a striking anecdote: “On the second day of the week, normally the training sessions are intense, we played five against five. A mini-tournament” begins -he.
“We had a fairly large squad, and therefore six teams for the tournament. Three fields. He had formed a Dutch team, with Vlap, Hoedt, Verbruggen, Zirkzee… Just before kick-off, Kompany came to see me: ‘It’s a social experiment. They have a good team, but wait and see if there is a problem. They will all start shouting at each other and complaining, and then nothing will work,’ laughs the defender. Today Genk’s goals.
Kompany knows his group like the back of his hand
“The tournament starts well for the Oranje, two victories, then the referee intervenes in a somewhat questionable way in the third match, you know how it goes (laughs) They lose and everything collapses. They have gone crazy. C “It’s exactly as Kompany predicted,” explains Van Crombrugge.
Vincent Kompany left Anderlecht with this reputation as the best people manager the players have known. Even if he sometimes knows how to put his finger where it hurts.
