On his YouTube channel, the founder of LFI deplored the evening of Tuesday, November 12, the accusations of anti-Semitism regularly targeting rebellious elected officials. At issue: the reporting by the Minister of the Interior to the courts of MP Marie Mesmeur’s tweet.
The boss of the Insoumis defends his troops. In a video published on his YouTube channel, Jean-Luc Mélenchon deplored on Tuesday November 12 a political-media atmosphere “rotten” in France, according to him “created from scratch so that it ends badly” for the Rebels. Regularly accused of anti-Semitism, the elected representatives of his party feel “a danger”. “Anyone who opposes the genocidal policy of Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu is immediately accused of anti-Semitism»estimated the rebellious leader.
Behind this message, the three-time presidential candidate points in particular to the behavior of the Minister of the Interior. “The rotten atmosphere is when the Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau attacks Insoumis parliamentarians to accuse them of anti-Semitism”he said, while the former senator announced that he had reported the tweet of LFI MP Marie Mesmeur to the courts. She stated in particular that Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters had been attacked Thursday evening in the Netherlands “because they were racist and that they supported a genocide». “I ask that we consider the level of violence which has been reached against us and which is relayed by officials like Mr. Retailleau”he insisted.
The three-time presidential candidate claims that Marie Mesmeur is «insulted daily on social networks and taken to task”which “several of us had to change our phone number because we were harassed day and night”and that “some were physically pushed around and then threatened with death”. “We feel in danger”he warns, also mentioning death threats against deputies Aymeric Caron, Thomas Portes and Louis Boyard.
Addressing Internet users, Jean-Luc Mélenchon asked them “not to participate in any way in this atmosphere”ensuring that “the Insoumis deputies keep moderation in everything they say”. “We must play a role, which consists, while maintaining the firmness of our positions, in not participating in or giving rise to the escalation that our adversaries would like to provoke to the detriment of our country”he explained.
Accusations of justifying violence
After the attacks against several Jewish supporters around the Europa League match between Maccabi Tel-Aviv and Ajax in Amsterdam, several political leaders strongly denounced anti-Semitic violence, with Emmanuel Macron even comparing the situation to Kristallnacht, the pogrom against the Jews of the Third Reich on the night of November 9 to 10, 1938.
For their part, several rebellious elected officials, pointing the finger at the anti-Arab chants chanted by supporters of the Israeli team before kick-off, were accused of justifying the violence in this way.
