Two impressively sized photos hang over the court of the Swiss Tennis Arena, one of Roger Federer, the other of Belinda Bencic. The 27-year-old Saint Galloise perhaps occasionally glances at this image of herself triumphing over an indeterminate opponent between two serves from Jil Teichmann, with whom she trains this Tuesday morning. The comrade hits hard. Not easy to cope with. But the young woman is gradually finding her feet and adjusting her feedback, giving a glimpse of the talent that allowed her to become Olympic champion in Tokyo in 2021.
The Swiss team is meeting this week in Bienne where it will compete on Friday and Saturday in a Billie Jean King Cup play-off, formerly Fed Cup, against Serbia. You have to win to qualify for the 2025 edition. But this sporting challenge is a little overshadowed by the simple presence of Belinda Bencic, back at work after her maternity leave. Born on April 23, little Bella is about seven months old and her mother is resuming her career as planned.
