The appointment of Olivier Renard as sporting director of Anderlecht has caused a lot of ink to flow. He wants to respond to criticism during the January transfer window.
The hostile banners from Anderlecht supporters from the first matches quickly showed it: Olivier Renard is not unanimous among the Mauves. Between his past Standard and his potential run-ins with the law in Operation “Clean Hands” (something he has always defended), he knows he is expected at the turning point.
The former sporting director of CF Montreal, however, has some assets in his camp. In Quebec and at Standard, he had distinguished himself with some successes, and intends to do the same at Lotto Park.
“My great strength is having a vast network. Football revolves around information, if you know the right people, things can move quickly. This makes deals possible that you would have thought impossible before” explains- he at Het Laatste Nieuws.
Olivier Renard doesn’t think he’s Harry Potter
A network which still seems to want to expand in Anderlecht: “Last week, I received calls from agents with whom I had not spoken for years. It makes me laugh, but that’s how It works.”
Olivier Renard is not fooled: “Everyone can find a player worth four million. The difficulty is acquiring a player worth four million for 200,000 euros. But I’m not Harry Potter. I can’t buy a player for a million today and resell it for 10, 15 or 20 million tomorrow.”
