Two years since Iga Swiatek finished at the top of the WTA rankings each year, yet in 2024, another player finished on the throne. Aryna Sabalenka is well in the lead on Monday ahead of the Polish and the American Coco Gauff, victorious at the WTA Masters.
The Belarusian, semi-finalist of this last tournament of the year, had a year rich in trophies with those of the Australian Open and the US Open, for the first time in her career, in a Grand Slam, without forgetting those of the Masters 1000 in Cincinnati and Wuhan. She also reached the finals of the Brisbane tournament in January 2024, then the Masters 1000 in Madrid and Rome. And even her defeat in the semi-finals of the WTA Masters did not, this time, deprive her of the number one seat since her great Polish rival was eliminated in the groups.

Qinwen and Krejcikova finish well
The big winner of this ranking is Zheng Qinwen, who, thanks to her finalist position at the Masters, goes from seventh to fifth place in the world, the highest rank of her career and also concludes a great season, marked by her Olympic title in Paris.
Barbora Krejcikova is the other player who benefits from this ranking: the former world No.2, who fell to 13th before the Masters for which she qualified thanks to her Grand Slam title during the year, at Wimbledon, returns to the Top 10, in tenth place.
