This is already the image of the tournament: three years after his malaise, Christian Eriksen returns to the Euro and finds the net

Christian Eriksen gave his country the lead, before conceding a draw against Slovenia. A goal full of emotion.

Three years after coming close to death in the middle of a Euro-2021 match, Christian Eriksen scored in Denmark’s draw (1-1) against Slovenia. A goal full of symbolism.

Eriksen, 32, is playing his fourth final phase of a European Championship in Germany, the first since this Denmark-Finland which, on June 12, 2021 in Copenhagen, changed his life. Victim of a heart attack in front of his family and loved ones, the attacking midfielder was kept alive by rescuers who performed cardiac massage on the pitch.

After the implantation of an automatic defibrillator and a long convalescence, Eriksen was able to resume his career at Brentford then at Manchester United and returned to the Danish selection with whom he played in the 2022 World Cup.

With his goal scored in the 17th minute, on a quickly played throw-in and a backheel from Jonas Wind to serve it in the Slovenian penalty area, Eriksen definitively closed the loop. The story could have been better if Erik Janza had not equalized in the 77th minute for Slovenia, who dominated after the break.
