The Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to be without No. 1 quarterback Trevor Lawrence for Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings due to a left shoulder injury, and possibly for longer.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL NetworkLawrence is bothered by a major sprain in his shoulder joint and his state of health will be re-evaluated on a weekly basis.
Surgery may be necessary, but the current plan is to give him rest and rehabilitation that will limit him for the next few weeks, Rapoport adds.
Mac Jones should therefore be the starting quarterback for the Jags against the Vikings.
Lawrence was injured in the first half of last weekend’s 28-23 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, when he was hit while diving headfirst on a rush. This will be just the second game Lawrence has missed since the Jaguars drafted him in 2021.
The question is whether Lawrence will be back for next Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions or whether the team will give him an extra week off with Jacksonville’s bye week the following week.
The Jaguars should be able to count on receivers Brian Thomas Jr. and Gabe Davis, both doubtful cases, for the game against the Vikings on Sunday.
Davis is nursing a shoulder injury and Thomas is nursing a chest injury.
