Max Verstappen’s performance at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix left many observers stunned.
The Red Bull driver won the rain-affected race from 17th on the grid, after a controversial week that saw numerous penalties and harsh criticism of his driving style during on-track battles.
Christian Horner compared Verstappen’s performance to that of Ayrton Senna at the 1993 European Grand Prix, when the Brazilian legend produced one of the best laps in F1 history.
Mark Webber, former F1 driver and now manager of Oscar Piastri, was also blown away by Verstappen.
“If it’s not Verstappen’s best performance, it’s certainly right up there…”
“There weren’t many pilots who were even close to being able to do the maneuvers that he did.”
“He looked comfortable. The grip he had in the slow corners, the way he handled the car, very smooth driving, very clean.”
“I don’t even think I saw him go offshore or drift during the whole race, which is extraordinary.”
“We know he’s had a phenomenal list of incredible races and comebacks. But this was a statement reminding everyone that ‘I’m the best on the planet’. Extraordinary driving from Verstappen. blazed a trail, surpassing all the guys.”
“He was the only one who could find opportunities quickly and make overtakes. The others struggled to find grip and took longer. He was just creative, courageous, decisive.”
