Top 14 – Kevin Lebreton, Mickaël Guillard, Sekou Macalou… The ranking of the best scratchers in the championship

The regular phase of the Top 14 has ended, many players have obviously distinguished themselves in attack but also in defense. Kevin Lebreton, Mickaël Guillard, Sekou Macalou are among the best scratchers in the championship.

1. Kevin Lebreton (20)

If his team did not manage to stay in the elite, the third row will nevertheless have tried everything. He who already stands out in tackles (second in the ranking, 256) is also and above all the best scratcher in the championship. With his 20 scratches in 24 matches and 1534 minutes he reigns over the category. He showed it again this year, Kevin Lebreton is an excellent defender, but he is also a symbol of this Aindinoise team which defended a lot and was too persistent to keep its place in the Top 14. Oyonnax only has the 12th highest possession percentage (48%).

2. Mickaël Guillard, Sekou Macalou and Patrick Sobela (15)

Behind Oyoman three players stand out with 15 scratches each. If the Lyonnais mainly played in the second line at the start of the season, he quickly went down a notch. The three therefore play like Kevin Lebreton in the third line. Sekou Macalou and Mickaël Guillard who play in teams that like to leave the ball (respectively 11th and 14th in the possession ranking) necessarily have more opportunities to scratch. Macalou, who likes to have the ball in his hands and often stands out with his big runs, therefore also defends very well.

Patrick Sobela plays in a team that likes to keep the ball (4th) and his performance is even more remarkable. In this trio Guillard is the one who has played the most, 26 matches and Macalou “only” 16, while the Perpignan player has played 22. The third lines and the hookers obviously stand out more in this category, but special mention to “Big Ben” (Ben Tameifuna), who is at 10.
