Team UAE continues to crush the Tour de Suisse. The yellow jersey Adam Yates indeed won the 7th stage in Villars-sur-Ollon ahead of his teammate Joao Almeida.
The Briton and the Portuguese arrived together in the Vaudois resort at the end of the 118 km of this mountainous stage, which offered two ascents of the Col de la Croix and twice the climb to Villars-sur-Ollon. Yates and Almeida did not compete for the stage victory, the yellow jersey crossing the line just in front of his colleague.
Before the final time trial on Sunday between Aigle and Villars-sur-Ollon (15.7 km), Adam Yates has a 31-second lead over Almeida and 1’51 over Colombian Egan Bernal. Grison’s Matteo Badilatti is still the best Swiss and is in 15th place at 8’15.
The last survivor of the day’s breakaway, the Norwegian Johannes Staune-Mittet was caught just over 4 km from the finish. The Austrian Felix Gall then attacked, but he failed to create a big difference. 3 km from the goal, Joao Almeida started the chase and Gall was caught shortly after. The yellow jersey then accelerated and only Almeida was able to take his wheel. American Matthew Riccitello took third place in the stage, 14 seconds behind.
