Black Stars coach Otto Addo has once again addressed the media regarding his decision not to call up Andre Ayew for the CAN 2025 qualifying matches against Angola and Niger.

The former Borussia Dortmund coach has not called up the striker since international friendlies against Uganda and Nigeria in March 2024.

Despite the 34-year-old veteran’s absence, Addo stressed that Ayew still had the chance to return to the national team.

“The doors are never closed. I watch the performances »he replied when asked about André Ayew, after initially declaring that he would no longer speak about his situation.

Ayew was initially left out of the Black Stars squad for the June 2024 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic. At the time, Addo revealed that he had personally traveled to to explain to the former man why he would not be part of the squad for these two matches. Explanations which did not convince the player.

“I had a long discussion with André and I gave him the reason why he was not in the group”he declared. “I speak to the players directly and I don’t like to spread information about what we talked about. That’s the decision we made and it’s not like he agreed, but I still have a lot of respect for him ».

Subsequently, André Ayew was also not called up for the two matches against Sudan, counting for the third and fourth days of the CAN 2025 qualifiers. He will also miss the last two against Angola and Niger.

Note that Ghana will face Angola on Friday November 15, 2024 at the Estadio 11 de Novembro in Luanda. Three days later, the Black Stars will host Niger for their final qualifying match at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, November 18.

Currently third in Group F with two points from four games, Ghana are five points behind second-placed Sudan and ten points behind group leaders Angola.
