24 Hours of Le Mans – The arrival of Hydrogen postponed, liquid hydrogen favored

Last year, Hydrogen was at the heart of the ACO’s annual press conference, organized on the sidelines of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It must be said that a few days earlier, during a trip to Japan, to the 24 Hours of Fuji, the president of the ACO Pierre Fillon had confirmed that he would open the Hydrogen regulations to internal combustion engines.

At the time, hydrogen gas was favored. This is also the technology that the Toyota GR H2 Racing Concept, unveiled last year and which once again takes pride of place this year in the Hydrogen Village, in the heart of the 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit.

Finally, the dedicated technical working group, headed by Bernard Niclot, changed its tune and finally decided to favor liquid Hydrogen, for various technical reasons which we will return to in more detail later.

Other information, which you already know if you are an avid reader of Endurance-Info, it is no longer in 2026 that we should expect to see the first cars powered by a Hydrogen powertrain arrive, but at best in 2028.”In any case, the regulations will allow it” said ACO President Pierre Fillon.
