The French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) unveiled this Thursday the list of candidates for the function of flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris. The vote will take place in early July.

Who will succeed Clarisse Agbégnénou, Samir Aït-Saïd, Stéphane Houdet and Sandrine Martinet? The list of candidates for the function of flag bearer of the tricolor delegation at the opening ceremony of the Olympic (July 26) and Paralympic (August 28) Games was unveiled at the CNOSF headquarters (Paris) this Thursday.

The list of candidates for the function of flag bearer of France at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games:

  • Wendie Fox (football)
  • Mélina Robert-Michon (discus throw)
  • Florent Manaudou (swimming)
  • Charlotte Bonnet (swimming)
  • Estelle Mossely (boxing)
  • Sofiane Oumiha (boxing)
  • Enzo Lefort (fencing)
  • Pauline Ranvier (fencing)
  • Earvin Ngapeth (volleyball)
  • Romane Dicko (judo)
  • Renaud Lavillenie (pole)
  • Laetitia Guapo (basketball)
  • Jean-Baptiste Bernaz (sailing)
  • Camille Lecointre (sailing)

The list of candidates for the function of flag bearer of France at the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games in Paris:

  • Nantenin Keita (para-athletics)
  • David Smétanine (para-swimming)
  • Nalia Barbosa (para-canoe)
  • Alexis Hanquinquant (para-athletics)

Each federation had the possibility of presenting two candidates, a man and a woman. This list of candidates will now be submitted to a vote (electronically) at the beginning of July by all the selected athletes, once the selections have been completed. The result will be known in mid-July. This is a direct vote, one vote is worth one vote. The pair chosen at the end of the vote cannot belong to the same federation.

The conditions to apply were to have never been a flag bearer, to have already participated in the Games Olympic Games and meet exemplary criteria while respecting and embodying the Olympic charters. Many federations did not wish to present candidates. Basketball, for example, must begin its competition in Lille the day after the opening ceremony. It is therefore difficult to leave something 200 kilometers away the day before a crucial meeting. The problem also arose for surfing, the spot being in Teahupo’o (Tahiti) 18,000 kilometers from Paris.
