The Confederation of African (CAF) this year increased the bonuses allocated to clubs participating in the Women’s Champions League.

The Women’s Champions Football League competitions open next Saturday in Morocco, with eight African clubs competing for a two-week tournament. For the occasion, CAF has decided to increase funding to further support the teams involved, marking a significant step forward for African women’s football. Since 2021, premiums have in fact increased by “ 52% to reach a total of 2 million 350 thousand dollars ».

For this edition of the Champions League, each participating club will receive a bonus of $150,000. The winner of the tournament will pocket $600,000 while the runner-up will walk away with $400,000. The third-place team will receive $350,000 and the fourth-place team will receive $300,000. The third in each group will receive $200,000 compared to $150,000 for the fourth.

Representing Senegal, the Eagles of Medina are participating in the competition for the first time after their historic victory during the UFOA A tournament, held last August in Sierra Leone. They join prestigious clubs such as the South African Mamelodi Sundowns, title holders, and AS FAR of Morocco, host team and champion in 2022.

Other teams qualified for this edition of the Women’s Champions League are Edo Queens from Nigeria (UFOA B), TP Mazembe from DR Congo (UNIFFAC), Commercial Bank of Ethiopia from Ethiopia (CECAFA), University of Western Cape from South Africa (COSAFA) and Tutankhamun of Egypt (UNAF).

« CAF is committed to developing and promoting women’s football in Africa, by investing in academies for boys and girls and increasing prize money for all its competitions », indicated the governing body of continental football.
