Tour de Suisse: First success in 2024 for Bryan Coquard of Cofidis

Bryan Coquard won the 2nd stage of the Tour de Suisse between Vaduz and Regensdorf (176.9 km). The Frenchman won in the sprint without having any real competition.

On a hilly course with a difference in altitude of 2,400 m, the longest stage of this 87th edition of the National Loop therefore smiled on the Frenchman of the Cofidis team. Coquard negotiated his sprint perfectly and was ideally placed before the last turn 300 m from the line.

Third, the Belgian Arnaud De Lie could perhaps have challenged the victory at the Tricolore without a chain break in the last hectometers. Between the two men, we find the Australian Michael Matthews who undoubtedly started from a little far away to be able to get ahead of Coquard.

This stage did not cause any change at the top of the ranking. Yves Lampaert retains his yellow leader’s jersey.

An attack by Küng

The best Swiss, Stefan Küng, finished 25th. The Thurgau rider from Groupama attempted an attack less than 5 km from the finish, but he was unable to make the difference.

On Tuesday, the peloton will ride in the Zurich region with a third stage of 161.7 km between Steinmaur and Rüschlikon on the banks of Lake Zurich. Another hilly stage with three 3rd category climbs in the last 40 kilometers.
