Drama at Bayern Munich despite the narrow victory for Kompany’s men – All football

The evening, although successful on the Bayern Munich pitch, was spoiled by a drama in the stands. A Bavarian fan died of a heart attack.

This Wednesday, Bayern Munich were playing big in the Champions League after losing two of their first three matches in the league phase. Vincent Kompany and his men had to redress the situation against Benfica. They did it, even if it was only by a short header (1-0).

But this victory was spoiled by a human tragedy. Indeed, the club announced this Thursday morning that one of its supporters had died in the stands during the match, following a heart attack. He collapsed during the meeting and could not be resuscitated by emergency services; the man died before reaching the hospital.

The drama unfolded at the very start of the match: from the 3rd minute, the Bayern ultras had stopped their chants following the intervention of the emergency services. A strange atmosphere was established in the Allianz Arena where only the Benfica supporters, who were unaware of what was happening, were heard.

After the match, Manuel Neuer and Vincent Kompany assured at a press conference that the group had not celebrated their victory in the same way in the locker room due to this sad news. “It’s difficult to think about football in these circumstances,” said the Belgian coach of Bayern Munich.

The Bavarian club is currently 17th in the league stage of the Champions League, with 6 points taken from twelve.
