The “Gascon Project” organized by the Fédération Française de la Course Landaise offers information and an introduction to this regional sport in schools and colleges in the region. This is how Didier Goeytes, former French champion of Landes spreaders and now sports instructor for the FFCL, met two classes from Séméac.
In the morning a CM2 class at school and in the afternoon a group of Occitan students at college. After a first “theoretical” part with videos, photos, and technical explanations, the students were able to experiment with the first movements of spreaders and jumpers by confronting “substitute” cows (balloons and inner tube).
These young Séméacais won over by this experience waited for the temporada meetings: in Nogaro first on May 31 for the Gascounets race which concludes the Gascon Project, then in Séméac of course on August 18 for the Landes promotion race festivals of the Paduans.

The Nogaro arenas hosted the Gascounets race which marked the end of the work carried out between Gers and Hautes-Pyrénées. The leaders of the French Landes Race Federation were also present with many school heads and teachers.
Right in front of the arenas, we could admire an exhibition of numerous drawings made by school children. No less than 33 classes and more than 900 students were able to benefit from the introduction to the Landes race under the leadership of the federal facilitator Didier Goeytes, well known in Séméac both at the Paul Valéry college and at the Montaigu Arbizon primary school.

A brass orchestra from the Tournay college, with 50 young people who came by bus, also had the pleasure of participating in the musical entertainment. As Bernard Dubarry, president of the Séméac Taurin Club, points out: “This orchestra made it possible to associate the success of this beautiful evening with the Gascon Project, the managers of the host schools, the teachers, departments 32 and 65, who are participating in the financing of this project with the Occitanie Region and also to mark the inking, the strength of this sport which is the Landes race. »
