The president of the Fsf had clarified that the file concerning the succession of Aliou Cissé on the Lions bench had not yet been processed by its Executive Committee. Stating that this was going to be done after the end of the Can 2025 qualifiers. We therefore understand the astonishment of the Senegalese football boss following the exit of Hervé Renard (see our edition from yesterday).
Indeed, in a recent interview for “Le Monde Afrique”, the French technician, new coach of the Saudi Arabian team, insinuated having submitted his candidacy for the vacant position of coach of Senegal.
“There were discussions. I had one wish, to have Omar Daf, a former Senegalese international, as my assistant. But Omar is the coach of Amiens (…). And this condition was not possible to fulfill immediately. I therefore decided at this precise moment to withdraw my candidacy,” he said, thus justifying his non-appearance on the bench of the 2021 African champions.
While these revelations are causing a lot of noise in the country of Teranga, as the possible arrival of the double winner of the Can with Zambia and the Ivory Coast had aroused enthusiasm, the Fsf denied having received the file of the technician of 56 years. “I have not received an application file from Mr. Hervé Renard. I can assure you, neither me nor the Comex,” President Augustin Senghor denied to “Cible Sports”.
“The decision which was made just after the departure of Aliou Cissé (the former coach dismissed at the beginning of October) is to keep the current technical management who know the group and who have already worked with Aliou. We don’t want to touch anything. We will choose a new coach after the CAN qualifiers,” he added, suggesting that no approach has been made by the body.
“If Hervé Fox says that he has submitted a file to the Federation, ask him with whom,” added the leader. In any case, he can no longer run for the position, he has already signed with Saudi Arabia.” And finally to recall the sequence of events: “We will meet after the qualifiers to choose a coach who will ensure the legacy of Aliou Cissé. And I am sure that he will have good results that meet the demands of Senegalese football.”
