Pro League TV contract: no decision taken this Tuesday, room for individual negotiations
The new contract at the heart of discussions between clubs this Wednesday: can Belgian football dream of more than €103 million?

Five months after the last AGM, the one which saw the current format of the championship confirmed, quite a few clubs wanted to reiterate the desire not to receive less in media rights than before, while certain circles of the elite did not only receive €3 million.

Then the decision was made to move on to a more advanced stage, face to face: “After the explanations of President Bart De Smet and CEO Lorin Parys and an exchange of views between the members, the clubs decided to give the mandate to management in order to move on to the next phase of the process, namely individual negotiations with the prospective buyers”explained the League in a press release. A phase which should make it possible to convince certain players to pay a little more to ensure they obtain certain lots, exclusive or not. And bring in a little more millions, again. As a reminder, the 2020 record was €103 million per season. Everyone will see each other again at the end of the month for a new AGM

A reflection on the Diarra case

Furthermore, the meeting allowed the League and its clubs to reflect on the response to the extremely important judgment handed down in October in the Lassana Diarra affair and which could shake up the entire transfer system, since the Court of Justice of the EU had estimated that the financial sanctions imposed by clubs and federations on players who terminate their contracts are disproportionate.
