Algeria Football– Due to preparations for the CAF Women’s Champions League matches, which will take place at the Larbi Zaouli stadium in Casablanca on November 10, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) proposed to move the Botola match between Wydad of Casablanca (WAC) and Ittihad of Tangier (IRT) at another stage. Initially scheduled for the same day, this match found itself in conflict with the organization of the prestigious women’s continental competition.
To avoid any logistical disruption and allow good preparation of the stadium for the CAF Women’s Champions League matches, the FRMF suggested to Wydad to relocate this confrontation to Mohammedia, at the Bachir stadium. This stadium, located not far from Casablanca, is often used to host league matches when an alternative is needed. However, this proposal did not find a favorable response from the management of the WAC, who declined the idea of playing in another venue.
Wydad, keen to preserve its habits and its advantage of playing at home, reacted by formulating a counter-proposal to the FRMF. Rather than changing stadiums, the Casablanca club suggested bringing forward the match against IRT to Friday November 8, while remaining at the Larbi Zaouli stadium. This alternative would avoid any overlap with the Women’s Champions League matches scheduled two days later and would also guarantee Wydad supporters continuity in the sporting venue chosen for this season.
The decision to keep the match at the Larbi Zaouli stadium is strategic for Wydad, which does not wish to alter its benchmarks by changing venue for such an important meeting. Indeed, each match in Botola is crucial for the WAC, which aims to remain competitive in the title race. Playing on a pitch where the team is more comfortable, facing their own fans, can make a noticeable difference in performance.
It remains to be seen whether the FRMF will accept this proposal to postpone the meeting to Friday, to accommodate the two events without altering the organization of the Women’s Champions League. The situation highlights the logistical challenges Moroccan clubs face due to scheduling constraints, especially with the rise in importance of women’s competitions on the continent.
If the FRMF gives the green light to advance the match, this would offer a satisfactory solution for both parties, allowing Wydad to maintain its home match while respecting the requirements linked to the preparation of the stadium for international women’s matches.
