AS Monaco still remains undefeated in the Champions League. On the 4th day of the league phase, Breel Embolo and his teammates defeated Bologna 1-0 in Italy.
The Monegasques had great difficulty getting past the shoulder. They had to wait until the 86th minute to score. Embolo then deflected a corner which Thilo Kehrer took perfectly at the 2nd post. The Bologna of Remo Freuler and Dan Ndoye have still not scored in the competition.
Coach Adi Hütter’s rant after the non-match against Angers (1-0 defeat) at home on Friday therefore worked. His men have risen to the level required by the Champions League and are now 3rd in the standings before Wednesday’s matches.
Liverpool continue their flawless performance
Liverpool alone took the lead in the standings. Only Aston Villa, who play Bruges on Wednesday, can return to their height. The Reds finally cracked Granit Xhaka’s Bayer Leverkusen 4-0 after the break. After a difficult first period, during which the Germans were slightly superior, Liverpool increased the pace. Bayer’s resistance was broken in the space of a few minutes with the successes of Diaz (61st) and Gakpo (65th).
Very successful, Diaz added even more to the bill (83rd/92nd). Granit Xhaka, at the heart of the game for the visitors, is still waiting to leave Anfield Road as a winner.
