The Premium 100% obstacle meeting on Monday November 25 will not take place in Nantes. After Graignes, Chantilly and Paris-Vincennes, forced to cancel (totally or partially) their meeting this Thursday, November 21, then Saint-Cloud on Friday (transferred to Chantilly the same day), it is the turn of the Petit racecourse Port to bear the brunt of the bad weather caused by the Caetano storm. Wind gusts of nearly 130 km/h did not spare Nantes’ infrastructure and significant damage was reported. It is therefore the Eventard racecourse in Angers which will be responsible for organizing the obstacle meeting, on the same day, under the conditions mentioned in the press release below. Reached by telephone by Thomas Bourgain in the evening, Tanguy Letort, manager of the Nantes racecourse, still can’t believe it: “There was heavy rainfall in Nantes this morning, before we went into orange alert in the afternoon for the wind, with gusts measured at 121 km/h. There was a massacre in the small woods as well as on another part of the course, including the fall of numerous trees including one of more than twenty meters which crossed the track and which destroyed the lists and the fence. There is a colossal job of cutting down the trees, knowing that the penetrometer showed 5.5 (very heavy) and that we cannot pass over them with agricultural machinery to remove the wood. The city services will give us a helping hand but the volumes of wood to be evacuated are enormous. Added to this is the power of the impact of falling trees which caused the ground to sink on the track, which was already very wet. There will be a lot of work to get the track back into shape. Furthermore, at the level of the steeplechase course, there are still large, partially broken branches in place and a large stump, uprooted, has dragged down part of the field. The parking lot was not spared either… It’s impressive and I’ve never seen that before. The wind was so strong that a billboard broke away from the starting stalls and landed 30 meters away. We are not the only ones concerned in Nantes where there was a lot of damage.”
