Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid participated in the team’s optional practice Monday as he continues to recover from an ankle injury.

McDavid was injured last Monday against the Columbus Blue Jackets and skated alone Thursday, a day after the team announced he would miss two to three weeks.

The Oilers have won two consecutive games without McDavid, thanks in particular to Leon Draisaitl’s three goals and six points in those two victories. Edmonton will host the New Jersey Devils on Monday night, with another home game against the Vegas Golden Knights scheduled for Wednesday.

McDavid’s injury occurred in the first period of Monday’s 6-1 loss to Columbus, as McDavid fought for the puck in the offensive zone. Blue Jackets defenseman Zach Werenski appeared to trip McDavid, who fell against the railing. No penalty was called on this play. The Oilers captain attempted to stay in the game, but ultimately skated to the bench under his own power and did not return to the ice afterward.

McDavid has three goals and seven assists in 10 games with the Oilers this season.
