Vertonghen clarifies his situation regarding his return

Thanks to a big 4-0 victory against KV Kortrijk, the crisis has temporarily eased in Anderlecht. Another positive point emerged at Lotto Park: Jan Vertonghen, injured for around three months with his Achilles tendons, finally sees a glimmer of hope regarding his return to the field.

Vertonghen gives news of his rehabilitation

The Anderlecht captain took advantage of the inauguration of a new sports field in Maasmechelen with his foundation to take stock with Sporza on his state of health. “I’m working hard every day to come back, but it’s taking longer than expected,” Vertonghen said. However, he also added an optimistic note: “It’s progressing well.”

Adjusted objectives to avoid disappointment

Vertonghen, who ended his international career to concentrate on Anderlecht, is now avoiding setting a specific return date. “I started by setting specific goals for training, running, and replaying matches, but that brought me disappointments. Now, I’m taking small steps every day.”

A hoped-for comeback against La Gantoise?

It is possible that Vertonghen will aim for a return in the home match against La Gantoise after the international break. If this is the case, coach David Hubert will have to cope without him for the upcoming matches against Rigas and Cercle Bruges. However, Vertonghen will undoubtedly need time to get back into rhythm after his long absence.
