The point brought back from Old Trafford, however, allows Chelsea to climb to fourth place with 18 pointsthe same total as fifth Arsenal and sixth Aston Villa, heavily beaten 4-1 earlier at Tottenham.

The days and the coaches pass but the situation remains essentially the same Manchester United, author of a fairly ordinary performance on Sunday in front of their home crowd.

The ‘Red Devils’ opened the scoring with a penalty converted by captain Bruno Fernandes (70th, 1-0), but their advantage only lasted four minutes, time for Moises Caicedo to equalize (74th, 1-1).

Amorim expected

The first championship match played since the dismissal of Erik ten Hag on Monday did not offer any real improvement to the supporters, who are impatiently awaiting the arrival of the future coach, the Portuguese Ruben Amorim, on November 11.

The schedule may also give them some hope, as the next three opponents in the Premier League, namely Leicester, Ipswich and Evertonare far from being big names. Chelsea may have regrets on their side, given the performance delivered on Sunday at Old Trafford and the consequences in the standings.

Enzo Maresca’s ‘Blues’ have won just one of their last four league matchesa gloomy series which prevents them from appearing on the podium, a week before welcoming Arsenal. Aston Villa were also eyeing third place before the 10th day, but this now belongs to the astonishing Nottingham Forest, seventeenth last season.

The Birmingham club fell to sixth place after his defeat at Tottenham (4-1), the first he has conceded since August in the league. Unai Emery’s team, sparkling in the Champions League, marks time in the Premier Leaguewith only one victory in their last six matches.

We are disappointed, a little frustrated, but we accept it“, said the Spaniard after the setback in London. However, he added on ‘Sky Sports’, the season lasts “38 matches and the championship is very close this year”.

Solanke sees double

In the standings, Aston Villa (6th, 18 pts) now has seven points less than leader Liverpoolto whom he is traveling next Saturday. Tottenham (7th, 16 pts) on the other hand moved closer to the leading group thanks to a spectacular second half, where the ‘Spurs’ scored four goals, including two by Dominic Solanke.

Before half-time, the north London side failed to put together the sparkling football of coach Ange Postecoglou, and it was the visitors who took the lead. Lucas Digne, for his 200th appearance in the Premier League, took a corner which was extended to the near post, pushed back on his line by Guglielmo Vicario then taken back at point blank range by Morgan Rogers (32nd, 0-1).

Despite this, Tottenham returned from the locker room with increased willpower and it quickly paid offon a cross from captain Heung-Min Son cut by Brennan Johnson (49th, 1-1). The choice to take Son out before the hour mark created astonishment among the supporters, but the outcome proved Postecoglou right, helped by Solanke’s close-range double (75th, 79th).

The center forward deceived Emiliano Martinez with a chipped ball after a superb pass from Dejan Kulusevski, then made it 3-1 with a pass from Richarlison, Son’s replacement. The Brazilian striker, injured on the occasion, in turn had to give up his place in favor of James Maddison, the last scorer with a nice direct free kick (90th +5, 4-1).
