when the Lightning and the Wild play with… two pucks

Yesterday was a rather busy day in the NHL, with six games scheduled.

Let’s see what happened in the Bettman circuit:

1. When the Lightning and the Wild play with… two pucks

Normally, in hockey, the goal of the game is quite simple: take the puck off the ice and try to put it in the opponent’s net. Until then, I don’t tell you anything.

On the other hand, last night, the Wild and the Lightning were ingenious: they said to themselves that with two pucks on the ice, it would double the fun.

And it gave this… weird sequence.

Obviously, there is a slightly more logical explanation for this situation: during a previous stoppage in play, a puck had lodged in the net, but no one had seen it. She was then dislodged… and she found herself on the ice.

Poor Andrei Vasilevskiy was therefore quite confused to see his teammate prepare to exit the zone with the puck… while at the same time, Marco Rossi had him too a puck and he was a few centimeters away from him.

You don’t see it every day, let’s say.

The rest of the game was played with just one puck… but that didn’t stop Kirill Kaprizov from shining with this one. In a 5-3 win for his team, he scored three points, including his team’s third goal.

Casually, his 21 points this season place him at the top of the NHL…

2. Aleksander Barkov shines in front of his supporters in Finland

Yesterday afternoon, we had action in the NHL, as the Panthers and the Stars, who have Finnish star players, crossed swords in Finland.

The Stars notably let their three Finns take a solo lap of the ice during the warm-up… but poor Miro Heiskanen tripped on the ice. Oops.

However, the two clubs delivered a very offensive match. In total, 10 goals were scored in the match, three of which were by Finnish players.

Aleksander Barkov notably led the charge with four points, including this goal.

6-4 victory for the Panthers, who won the first match of a series of two duels in two days against Finland.

Great moment for Barkov at the end of the match, moreover, he who was named player of the match in his native country.

3. Flames fans taunt Jacob Markstrom

This summer, the Flames traded Jacob Markstrom to the Devils. It was a big transaction, as one of the best goalies in the league changed addresses.

And for the Devils, it was an opportunity to plug a hole in their training.

However, last night, Markstrom was back in Calgary… and he allowed three goals to his former club, all in the third period. This therefore led the fans on site to taunt their former player.

What didn’t help Markstrom’s cause was that his opponent, Dan Vladar, didn’t give up all night.

He shut out the Devils, helping the Flames win 3-0.

4. Hat trick for Nikolaj Ehlers

This season, the Winnipeg Jets are Really on fire. The club wins games all the time, and yesterday, the Jets could become the first NHL team to reach the 10-win mark.

And obviously, Nikolaj Ehlers understood this well. The Dane was on fire last night, scoring a hat trick before the end of the second period.

He was dominant.

Josh Morrissey, Gabe Vilardi and Mason Appleton also contributed to the score for the Jets, who won by a score of 6-2 against the Blue Jackets.

10 wins this season for the Jets.

5. Disturbing scene for Mike Reilly

Yesterday, the Islanders were on the Buffalo side to face the Sabres. However, even if we were treated to some good moments of hockey, it was rather a scene at the start of the second period that caught the attention.

And for the wrong reasons.

While Mike Reilly was near the boards, Jordan Greenway hit him hard… and Reilly put a lot time to get up.

The stretcher was brought out, but Reilly was able to skate off, although helped by his teammates.

Note, however, that the Islanders found a way to avenge their teammate by seeking victory.

This beautiful goal from Maxim Tsyplakov notably helped the Isles to win.
