DOUALA (Cameroon) – The Congolese teams ASB Makomeno and CNSS, during the last day of the Zone 4 qualifiers of the Women’s League Africa (WBLA), won their places for the final phase scheduled for Dakar, Senegal, in December.

For both teams, their qualification is mixed with ASB Makomeno losing their last match while CNSS humiliated FAP to break the hearts of the Cameroonian teams.

Here is how the last day went at the Japoma Multi Sports Complex, in Douala.

DBF surprises Makomeno

With three wins going into this match, ASB Makomeno was already assured that the Daniel Battiston Foundation (DBF) would not be a problem in the final match, but that was not to be the case as the home team finished with a bang with a victory of 62-52.

From the start of the match, DBF did not relax and showed no signs of weakness with a score of 21-14 in the first quarter, which affected their confidence.

Seeing DBF’s determination, Makomeno fought to maintain her exciting run in the Zone 4 African qualifiers for the Women’s Basketball League Africa. The two teams finished the second and third quarters at 15-15 and 16-16 respectively.

The final quarter proved decisive as DBF kept the pressure on Makomeno to maintain their lead at 10-7 and hand the Congolese team their first defeat in the qualifiers.

Larissa Mbong was omnipresent in Makomeno’s defense with a double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds. Her teammate Raissa Mogoun added 14 points while the duo of Sussaine Even and Kesie Kom Yagou scored 9 points each in the match which had three lead changes.

For ASB Makomeno, Laura Kabongo with an efficiency of 19 scored 17 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, made 4 steals and Milove Muembia added 10 points while they committed 21 loose balls which certainly affected the final score.

The CNSS sends the FAP to the carpet

This final match of the Zone 4 playoffs was highly anticipated, with both teams needing nothing more than a win to advance.

At the start of the match, both teams had two wins and one loss each, which foreshadowed an exciting encounter.

CNSS star Bintou Drame scored 17 points to help his team, while Gracia Nguz and Rhema Tshoto contributed 13 points and 10 points to ensure their dominance over the home team.

From the start of the match, the CNSS took control of the game by putting pressure on and taking control of the field while ensuring success in all quarters 21-12, 10-8, 17-7 and 13-11.

FAP’s Cynthia Amayaba’s 11 points fell short of expectations for the home side, who finished qualifying with a 2-2 record, compared to 2-2 for their DBF counterpart.

ASB Makomeno and CNSS finished with a record of 3-1 respectively, while FAP and DBF finished their participation with a record of 2-2 and NABA recorded a record of 0-4.
