Chicoutimi Saguenéens head coach Yanick Jean has become the coach who has led the most games in the history of the QMJHL.
Jean took his place behind a QMJHL bench for the 1172nd time, Friday, while the Sags visited the Drummondville Voltigeurs. His team won 3-2 in overtime.
Jean thus surpasses Richard Martel, who directed 1,171 matches, including 507 with Chicoutimi between 1990 and 2011.
He already broke the prestigious record for the most victories as a trainer last year, also passing Martel.
Jean now has 606 victories in the QMJHL.
He coached 597 games with the Saguenéens, 150 with the Prince Edward Island Rocket and 425 with the Victoriaville Tigres.
Korney Korneyez scored at 00:37 in overtime and the Saguenéens earned their fifth straight victory.
The Kazakhstan player took part in Thomas Desruisseaux’s equalizing goal at the start of the third period.
Drummondville lost for the first time in four outings.
