Bijan Robinson and the Atlanta Falcons continue to improve, while Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys get stuck.
Robinson largely explains why the Falcons (5-3), leaders of the Southern section of the National Association, have won four of their last five games, heading into their Sunday duel against the Cowboys (3-4 ).
The Georgia team took the lead in its section last week by defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-26. The Cowboys are third in the AFC East after Prescott threw two interceptions in a 30-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. It was the second defeat in a row for the Texan team.
Robinson reached the 100-yard rushing plateau in his last three games, and he scored four touchdowns during that stretch. The Cowboys are 31st in the NFL against the ground game, after allowing 223 yards to the 49ers in their last game.
Kirk Cousins threw four touchdown passes against the Bucs, including one to Robinson.
“I think all of us on offense, if we execute plays the way we need to, then we can all be very dangerous,” Robinson said. Personally, I’m building my confidence a little more week by week. »
The Cowboys rank last in the league against the ground game.
The Dallas club will also have to find a way to limit costly turnovers.
Prescott has two interceptions in each of his last three games, his first in nine seasons in the NFL. The Cowboys have generated just two turnovers in their last five games, plummeting to 26th in the league with just five total.
They therefore have a turnover differential of minus-8 this season, after having concluded the three previous campaigns with a differential of at least plus-10. The Cowboys have made the playoffs each time, thanks to their 12-5 record.
“Personally, I’m very frustrated,” admitted Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy. It’s a telling statistic, but we can’t change the past. We know how to correct the situation. We’ve done it before. We must move from words to action, in training, in exercises, and apply them on Sunday. That’s our priority. »
