Un 2e « five-by-five » pour Wembanyama

Author of a sluggish start to the season, Victor Wembanyama shone during San Antonio’s victory against the Utah Jazz 106-88. The Frenchman offered himself a second ‘five-by-five’ in his career.

The day after a failed match against Oklahoma City (6 points), Victor Wembanyama bounced back against the Jazz, deprived of its leader Lauri Markkanen. The French phenomenon accumulated 25 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 steals and 5 blocks, while attempting a lot of three-point shots (4 of 13).

The Americans have a name for this rare stat line with more than five units in five different sectors: the ‘five-by-five’. And to realize how rare this performance is, you have to remember that it has only occurred 23 times in NBA history. Note that the NBA only recorded interceptions and blocks from the 1973/74 season, which means that we do not find Wilt Chamberlain or Bill Russell.

So the one who has counted the most is Hakeem Olajuwon with 6. Behind we find Andreï Kirilenko with 3 and therefore Wembanyama with 2. These three men are the only ones to have more than one in their career.

The Frenchman achieved his first on February 23 against the Los Angeles Lakers.
