RSC Anderlecht failed to put itself in a position that would allow it to hope this Sunday. Jesper Fredberg, however, wanted to take a step back.

Jesper Fredberg, last match of the season (and absence of Brian Riemer) required, appeared in front of the press in the mixed zone of Bosuil, this Sunday. And the RSCA sports director was not happy with the result (3-1), of course. “We had one goal coming here and that was to win, then see what happened elsewhere to see if we had pulled something out of our hat,” said the Dane.

“Regardless of the results elsewhere, I am disappointed. We led, we even had the opportunities to make the break, but at one point, there was a lack of quality,” Fredberg then regrets. “This is one of our clear areas for improvement: to be more killer, to finish these kinds of matches.”

A good season for Anderlecht

But this bad result, and even these last two bad results, will not change the overall analysis of the season. “That would be lacking in perspective,” smiles Jesper Fredberg. “I have to sleep on it and tomorrow morning I will be at peace, because I think we have had a good season. Then, of course, when you find yourself in a position to have even more with two days to go, you want to go get him, and we haven’t been able to do so.”

Other clubs need to look over their shoulder…

Anderlecht could indeed have gone for an unexpected title, but slipped in the final stretch. “We had secured the top 3, we had nothing left to lose, that’s what bothers me. But now we’ve lost the momentum. It lacked a bit of quality. Now we have to take hindsight because these last two matches are blurry in our heads”, concedes the sports director of the RSCA.

But Jesper Fredberg concludes with a promise in the form of a threat to all the Belgian top clubs: “The evaluation begins tomorrow, but we will keep this hunger. The message to the other teams is clear: look behind your shoulder, because the hunt is opened”.
