For the first time since the start of his Formula 1 career in 2018, Monegasque Charles Leclerc won the legendary Monaco Grand Prix this Sunday, May 26. The Ferrari driver is ahead of Oscar Piastri (McLaren) and Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) and is closing in on Max Verstappen (6e Sunday) in the World Drivers’ Championship.

Prince Albert II moved to tears

On the podium, Charles Leclerc waved a large Monaco flag to celebrate a historic afternoon, seeing him become the first Monegasque to win a title at home. A scene in front of which Prince Albert II of Monaco could not hold back his tears, giving the 26-year-old pilot a warm hug.

His Serene Highness is himself a former Monegasque representative in high-level sporting competition, participating five times in the Winter Olympic Games (1988, 1992, 1994, 1998 and 2002) in bobsleigh, as well as in the Paris-Dakar rally (1985 and 1986).

Charles Leclerc scored the sixth victory of his career in Formula 1, the first since the Austrian Grand Prix, on July 10, 2022.
