How do you run a thoroughbred like Lane Hutson? Former Canadiens head coach Michel Therrien, who managed PK Subban in Montreal, was asked the question on TVA Sports.

But before he responded, he was shown old footage from the defunct reality show 24CH. On these, he lathers Subban, who had a bad game in his body.

Therrien couldn’t help but laugh…

“Your approach changes from one player to another,” he explained. Kristopher Letang, at 20 years old, he was already a professional. Subban needed…”

The one who is now an analyst for TVA Sports thought for a moment to find the right words.

“He was distracted at times,” he continued, “so it was my job to get him back on track so he was focused.”

Even if Therrien could be harsh with the number 76, we have to admit that it worked. Subban won a Norris Trophy under Therrien and had his most productive season under him; 60 points in 2014-2015.

“The most important thing is to get the most out of the player,” recalled Therrien. […] Subban gave us great hockey.”
